St. Luke's 175th Anniversary Celebration Event - A Huge Success

After a year of planning, organizing, coordinating, recruiting, assigning, executing, and a lot of praying, St. Luke's 175th Anniversary Celebration took place on May 4th and 5th.  The reviews are in and the results show our Celebration was a huge success.

Saturday's events, which were well attended, included a ceremony in the Church with speeches by Delegate Lee Ware,  Board of  Supervisors member David Williams, Powhatan Historical Society President John Rothert, Connie Harriss and the Rev. Dr. Sandi Kerner.  From there, we moved to the St. Francis garden where Sandi blessed the time capsule before burial for twenty-five years.  Throughout the afternoon members and guests had opportunities to go on a tour of the Church as well as the Church cemetery which was beautifully decked out with gorgeous geraniums donated by family and Church members; go on a scavenger hunt which included gravesite rubbings; visit the Gallery in the Parish Hall which included a display of photos, artifacts, memorabilia, art, a timeline, members' reflections and favorite Bible verses and a slide show.  Lemonade and homemade cookies were also enjoyed by all.

Sunday's events consisted of a special Church service led by the Rev. Dr. Sandi Kerner, followed by lunch under the big tent.  We had 140 members and guests attend the Church service and 200 enjoyed lunch.  The Gallery was also available for all to enjoy.  And in spite of the weather forecast for Sunday calling for 100%  chance of rain, the good Lord heard  our prayers and we enjoyed the festivities without one drop of precipitation!

A lot of work went into making our 175th Anniversary Celebration very special.  Details from every aspect of the event were thought of and covered to the point that the event took place with no major or minor issues.

There are many people to thank.  An event of this magnitude could not be possible without the dedication and teamwork that is required and many of you willingly volunteered to participate.  Your participation is a testament to your tireless energy, efforts, attention to all the details, and love of this Church and its members, past and present.  A big thanks to all of you who helped to make this event great.  We are so grateful you are part of St. Luke's family.
